HOW TO GET HERE

The temple town of Chidambaram is located in the state of Tamil Nadu, South India in Cuddalore district in the east central part of Tamil Nadu. It’s a small town a little away from the Bay of Bengal, tucked away in between the temple town of Sirkazhi, Cuddalore town and Pondicherry. Chidambaram sits on the banks of River Kollidam that bifurcates from the Kaveri River and flows eastwards towards the Bay of Bengal.

Chidambaram is an ancient land and was once the capital of the Cholan Empire Here lies in the Core centre of this town the most revered Civa Temple in the world - the Tillai Nataraja Koyil. An ancient temple where Citter Tirumular, Sage Patanjali visited and wrote their thesis on yoga.

The nearest is the Puducherry airport (11. 5 N and 79. 4 E) that has flights to Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The next closest airport is the Tiruchirapalli International Airport (11.4, N 79.7 E) that has flights to Chennai, Bengaluru and Kochi and international flights to Singapore, Dubai, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur and Sharjah.

By Train

The boarding station for all Chennai to Chidambaram trains are the Chennai Egmore Railway Station(MS) or Tambaram Railway Station(TBM), and deboarding at Chidambaram be at Chidambaram Railway Station(CDM).

There are frequent daily trains and takes 4 to 5 hours of travel time. Those who fly in to Chennai can board at Tambaram Railway Station(TBM) as that is the closest station to the airport.

The boarding station for all Bangalore to Chidambaram trains are from Bangalore City Station(SBC). There is only 1 daily over night service from this city and it stops at Mayiladuturai which is 40 kms south of Chidambaram. You can take a connecting train or Bus to Chidambaram from there which is about an hour away.

Tiruchirapalli to Chidambaram, there are 6 trains covering a distance of about 158 km . It takes about 2hr 50min hours travel time.

From Chennai or Tiruchirapalli and even Pondicherry and Bangalore , the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation TNSTC or even SETC is a Tamil Nadu Government undertaking serving intercity buses to various cities and towns and other regions within the state as well as neighboring states of Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.

Bus services are frequent within Tamil Nadu.

There are also 2 daily overnight busses from Bangalore to Chidambaram served by KSRTC. The first bus KSRTC (Karnataka) leaves at 21:05 from Bangalore to Chidambaram and the second KSRTC (Karnataka) departs at 22:00 from Bangalore to Chidambaram. Bangalore to Chidambaram travel by KSRTC (Karnataka) bus takes around 08:00 covering 287 kms.
